Have you every thought much about roots? If you're a gardener, you probably think about them often! As I've recently tapped into a little bit of gardening, the Lord has truly expanded my thoughts on roots...

Root (Hebrew: nathash) - to tear away: -destroy, forsake, pluck (out, up, by the roots), pull up, root out (up), x utterly.
Throughout my journey with the Lord, He has shown me that much of my perspectives, responses, issues, emotions, transgressions, and the such, are direct results of root issues in me. He's such a good Counselor to show us exactly what those root issues are when we seek Him in it. From that has always come healing and health.
The first teaching He gave me on this matter was jealousy. It was the craziest thing that I was experiencing jealousy because I've always been secure and confident in myself. So naturally, I didn't understand why I was feeling that way after all those years of self-confidence. I cried out to the Lord in prayer, seeking why I was feeling jealous. He was quick to let me know that I had a root of insecurity that had not been dealt with. The root issue was insecurity. It's as if gaining the understanding that the root was there and confessing it, He was then able to pull it right out. I've not experienced jealousy since then. Health and healing. He's good to us like that!
"For if the firstfruit be holy, the lump is also holy: and if the root be holy, so are the branches." (Romans 11:16 KJV)
Recently, physical roots from the ground have been a big part of our family's life. My husband has been pulling up a cazillion brush trees with big roots. I've been pulling up a variety of roots while cleaning out a weed, tree seedling, and monkey grass infested flower bed. In addition to pulling up roots, I've also been planting roots of new shrubs, flowering ground cover, vegetables, and herbs, as well as replanting good roots that were pulled up. Just so you know, I'm not really into gardening. But oh how exciting it has been to see with my physical eyes these many roots all awhile remembering my inward roots and the Holy Scriptures speaking of roots! Though the Scriptures are specific in their context, they are very much applicable to our life regarding roots and rooting.
As you can imagine, it's no surprise that the Lord would inspire me with this poem during a recent prayer time with Him. I pray you are able to reflect on roots that the Lord may want to set free in your life; that you will experience health and healing, more and more...
Some roots are small
Some are big
Most are deep
Many are shallow
Roots spread
Moving throughout
Affecting the matter
In which they exist
Matter of soil
Matter of skin
Matter of heart
Matter of soul
Matter of mind
Matter of strength
Rooted within
There's a time to dig some roots
Time to plant some roots
Time to water some roots
Time to share some roots
Time to spare some roots
Time to divide some roots
Time to conquer some roots
Maybe it's time to set free some roots
Death of roots
Roots are covered
Roots are hidden
Roots are buried
Roots of old and new abound
The pain
The anquish
The strength
The energy
Rooting out from the depths of their being
Free at last
Understanding
The roots within
"See, I have this day set thee over the nations and over the kingdoms, to root out, and to pull down, and to destroy, and to throw down, to build, and to plant." (Jeremiah 1:10 KJV)
