Go in Strength

When you have no strength to go, go anyway.

"I will go in the strength of the Lord God: I will make mention of thy righteousness, even thine only." (Psalm 71:16 KJV)

Have you ever just felt like not doing what you needed to do? I certainly have! Just yesterday, I was so tired from being up all night with my sick dog, that I felt certain I could take a nap after my morning work. But after lunch, there was so much work still to do, that I didn't think I should, even if it was for only 30 minutes. Then the Lord affirmed my thinking with the Scripture I had just read that morning: "I will go in the strength of the Lord God..." So I did! He gave me what I needed to finish the work planned for the day!

Go!

"For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them." (Ephesians 2:10 KJV)

For me and every Christian, the Lord has ordained specific works for us personally. And they are very good works. So, obviously, no matter how we feel, we need to be about them. It's not by chance that when we are committed to walking in the works of the Lord, we may have difficulties. There is a real enemy trying very hard to prevent us from doing the Lord's work. The spiritual battle that we may not see is truly powerful, as is written in multiple Scriptures.

Strength!

"And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me." (2 Corinthians 12:9 KJV)

Oh how many times I've heard the Holy Spirit whisper "my grace is sufficient" and "my strength is made perfect in weakness." Why? Well, let's see... I have arthritis in my hands, regular neck/back pain due to a bulging disc, and the biggy for me are chronic migraines. For a season I had about 20 migraines per month! Having experienced God's healing power in the past, I could not understand why the Lord would let me suffer so much while serving Him. It's not like I would want to disobey the works He gave me, though I was suffering greatly. God reminded me of the many Scriptures about suffering and His grace. He especially emphasized the wonderful truth "that the power of Christ may rest upon me."

Wow! Who doesn't want the power of Christ? Who doesn't want perfect strength? So, I stopped asking the Lord to heal me from chronic migraines. I began asking him to lighten the pain and limit the quantity of migraines. He did! The Lord is so good to us! I currently have 3-6 migraines each month and they are not nearly as strong as in the past. Don't get me wrong. They are still painful.

Mention!

The Lord God is righteous and faithful, full of mercy and compassion. When he calls us to it, he sees us through it. But too often, we can't see past our circumstances to believe, and walk faithfully in his truths. God understands that we are mere humans, struggling to obey him. He continues to give us chance after chance, even so. Hallelujah!

So next time you're struggling to commit or follow through with the works our Lord has ordained for you, remember that the perfect strength and power of Christ is available. You need only to be willing to work weak!
